Following the invitation of Prof. Franz-Josef Bormann, member of the German Ethics Council and publisher of the journal for medical ethics, our article appeared in the November issue. Where do we stand today and what does the future hold for robotic applications in medicine? The modern lightweight technology, such as the MIRO and the safe human-robot interaction offer many applications in surgery and diagnostics as well as in healthcare. The focus of the article is on minimally invasive, robot-assisted surgery, automatic wound cleaning using water-jet surgery and human-robot collaboration in everyday clinical practice. The current state of science in intelligent service robotics and telepresence technology will also be introduced. The full article is available at:
